We evaluate

You have found a translator but you are unsure if he or she is a good match for your book? You would like to get some feedback on a translation sample but don’t know who to ask?

We can help you!

Pick three people from our experiend and reliable expert pool of translators, editors, proofreaders, bloggers and readers from your specific genre and get their unbiased opinion.

How does it work?

  1. Find your translator (or ask us for recommendations).
  2. Ask your translator for a sample translation. Any serious translator will agree to this. Since you need at least several pages of text for an evaluation, this will exceed a free work sample and should be paid.
Tip: Don’t have the first few pages of your book translated but find something typical of your book: a humorous scene, an erotic scene, a fight scene, etc. These will give you a better idea if the translator you picked will be a good fit for your book.
  3. Send us your sample and pick three evaluators out of our pool of trusted and reliable experts according to your needs. We have translators, editors, proofreaders, bloggers, and readers available to evaluate your text. If you would like to get the opinion of three professionals, you may pick a translator, an editor, and a proofreader. If you are more interested in how readers will respond, you may pick one translator plus two readers and bloggers, or for an opinion from all sides, a translator, a proofreader and a reader.

We recommend to always include a professional translator. Since we offer literary translations ourselves, we usually refrain from evaluating and will asks colleagues instead to avoid a possible conflict of interest. However, if you would like to hear our personal opinion, we will give it to you.

  1. The evaluators you picked will study your text and grade it according to a predefined scale. They may also make individual comments. We will collect their evaluations and send them to you.

Please email us if you would like to see the evaluation scale before making a decision!

How big does my sample translation need to be?

Our sample size limit is 3,000 words. Again, we recommend that you pick scenes from your book that are typical for your writing style, not necessarily the first chapter.

How do I pick my evaluators?

Please choose according to your needs. Again, we advise you to include at least one professional translator. We will then pick someone from the categories you requested, depending on their availability. We will make the first names of your evaluators available to you.
